Whole Foods Accused Of False Advertising In Beef Lawsuit

A recent lawsuit against Whole Foods Market claims that the company is falsely marketing beef with the slogan "No Antibiotics, Ever." Get the details here.

Whole Foods is sued over ‘no antibiotics, ever’ beef claim

Three consumers and animal welfare nonprofits on August 23 sued Whole Foods Market for falsely advertising beef with the slogan: No Antibiotics Ever.

The proposed class action said that recent laboratory testing found that Whole Food beef contains antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals. It means that cattle were fed and injected with antibiotics and other drugs.

A study by Peymon Khaghani, Jason Rose, Sara Safari and the nonprofit Farm Forward found that this allows for antibiotic-resistant bacteria to be created, which may cause infections resistant to existing antibiotics.

According to the complaint filed in federal court, Whole Foods claims they sell at least 42 beef products free of antibiotics and are charging substantial price premiums based on that claim.

Whole Foods and Amazon failed to respond to requests for comment.

Farm Forward's mission is to inspire and educate conscious choices about food, work to reduce animal suffering, and aim for sustainable agriculture.

The complaint alleges that tests conducted in 2021 and 2022 of meat samples from six Whole Foods locations in Chicago, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and Virginia revealed the presence of pharmaceutical residue, including antibiotic residue.

The Nonprofit revealed that Whole Foods chief executive John Mackey left the nonprofit Farm Forward after a study of the company's performance in April.

Whole Foods are requested to compensate customers for damages due to the company's poor marketing of its beef.
